Domestic Violence Awareness Week 2012

Monday – Survivor Stories (Documentary)
Time & Place: 12am at www.nour-dv.org.uk
A short documentary created by Nour, giving an insight on the detrimental effects of domestic violence. Real life experiences will be documented from three of our clients, one from a child victim, one from a female victim and one from a male victim. Thank you to our clients who spoke out and are assisting us in breaking the silence.

Tuesday – Nour Hits the Streets
Time & Place: All day at Whitechapel Road.
Nour will be hitting the streets of Tower Hamlets with two aims:
[1] Awareness: A fundamental feature to bring DV to an end, thus we will be highlighting its occurrence to the Muslim community and we stress the need to unite to tackle this issue.
[2] We will be filming the public, interviewing them and attaining their perspective of DV; giving us the platform to educate and inform them of any misconceptions and to document the perspectives held today.

Wednesday – Nour in the Media
Time & Place: 2.00 – 2.30pm at the BBC Asian Network
Nour will be appearing as a guest on the Nihal Show, to discuss the prevalent, yet silent issue of domestic violence in the Muslim community. This will allow us to tackle some specific misconceptions that are associated with this subject, giving the public a platform to call in and get involved.

Thursday – Sabr is Not Suffering in Silence (Webinar)
Time & Place: 6pm – 8pm at www.nour-dv.org.uk
Join Sister Yasmin Mogahed in a powerful, awakening and influential seminar regarding the misunderstanding of sabr and the misconception that sabr equates to suffering in silence.

Friday – Domestic violence Khutbah
Time & Place: 1pm, Masaajid
Across London and beyond insha’Allah, we would like to get more masaajid involved this year in our khutbah event. This is so the khutbah can be delivered in as many masaajid as possible, ensuring that no matter where we go, we will all be given a wake-up call about this corrupted behaviour. Again, if you are able to get your local Imaam to participate, please contact us at info@nour-dv.org.uk inshaAllaah, and we will respond with further information which can be sent to them.
